Smallville consistently nailed all the casting and characterisation of its father characters. Jonathan Kent. Lionel Luthor. Even the throwaway characters. I dropped the show during the Justice League season (10?) but pretty much up until around then you could always bank on Smallville delivering the goods if the storyline was about a father. Incredibly niche thing to be the best on television at but hey they did it.
