The worst for this is that they started putting browns in nerd shows like silicon valley and the big bang theory. Like we have to accept that there will always be at least one Indian. It just makes the whole show seem depressing.

yeah the problem is you actually need FRIENDS and a functioning social life irl to really appreciate friends... and you're posting this on 4chan, you had to have known that ~80% of the replies were gonna be seething lonetards who don't have a single female friend, let alone 3 of them.

anyway, yeah i think it's definitely in the conversation for GOAT sitcom, certainly top 5. the comedy is still solid; good mix of witty wordplay, dramatic irony, and general goofiness that exemplifies what a great sitcom should do. yeah it ain't high art and it never pretended to be. great at balancing the episodic format where anyone can jump into an episode, while also still maintaining season-long arcs. the characters are each very well-defined, and the interpersonal rapports between each of them are fun and engaging. bullshit like HIMYM and big bang theory just blatantly ripped off friends, while being objectively worse. truly a pearl in the sea of shitty sitcom schlock.

tl;dr friends is actually good, and i'm sorry your life sucks so much if you really think it's not funny at all

It's not really that funny, not many good jokes through the show, but very good group chemistry and comfy atmosphere. It's something you can leave playing in the back for comfort, but not really to have good comedy like seinfeld.

The high schooler told her he was in college to get her in bed. Richard was 21 years older than her. There were also Fun Bobby, who was an alcoholic and turned into Dull Bobby when he quit drinking, and Pete, the tech billionaire played by Jon Favreau who wanted to become a proto-UFC champion. I think those were the only ones that lasted more than one episode.
You can say they're weird I guess, but pretty much every romantic interest outside of the main group was weird in some way.

It was the peak of 'comfort over comedy' sitcoms and pretty much every one of them that came after ripped this off. BBT was too soulless and HIMYM, while having more hype and being funnier, made the characters progressively douchier to the point it stopped being a good comfort show.

Ross and Rachel sucked, it was like they took Sam and Diane and removed the self awareness it got from everyone else in the show calling out what a bullshit relationship it was and played it like it was legitimately a good pairing. Then instead of having them be together they made it so that they just continually teased it for the entire fucking series, like seriously they have a kid by the end but they're only together for like 1 season out of 10.

>He cheated on her because he was drunk, the Xerox girl seduced him and he thought she'd cheated on him too.
Their relationship had been strained for several episodes before that, with Ross freaking out about her co-worker and her not having enough time for him. And then they spent the next 80% of the series broken up after that.

This I definitely agree with, also the romance angle between Rebecca and Sam fizzling out was 100% the best thing for both of their characters.
>Because he was still shellshocked from his ex-wife and was not mentally prepared for a relationship yet. Funnily enough he becomes better the more fucked his romantic life gets.
I always sort of saw it as him just being immature about relationships in general. He hadn't had to start a relationship since college, and got married pretty quick after, so he never had to learn what dating a woman with a real career he wasn't already married to was like.

I honestly blame the whole thing on Mark. He knew for a fact that Ross was paranoid about him and still basically invited himself over to Rachel's apartment immediately after hearing they had a big fight. Given that he asked Rachel out pretty shortly after they broke up, it's pretty clear he knew exactly what he was doing and probably even suspected how Ross would react if he saw him there.

I just rewatched that whole thing like 2 weeks ago.

"We're not joiners." -Larry and Jerry

NBC had a "NYC Blackout" night on their Thursday "Must See TV" lineup where since all 4 sitcoms took place in NYC, they wanted all plots one week to share this power outage.

The other three were on board but the Seinfeld gang refused. Which was smart. They worked so much harder on their scripts.
Their code for the show and its characters was "No hugging, no learning."

That's why I love Seinfeld above all others.

Larry David didn't even like the Kramer cameo in Mad about you, iirc there's an episode where Susan tells George about having taped mad about you, which means the show exists in Seinfeld, thus establishing they are not in a shared universe. No Idea how true this is, some anon posted about it in a seinfeld thread ages ago.

They aren't. Larry David never liked this and obliterated this forced crossover (that he never liked) by Susan's calling George to bed by "George, come on, I taped "Mad About You"" indicating that as far as Seinfeld's universe is concerned the characters of "Mad About You" don't exist there

Seinfeld is one of the unfunniest shows of all time. Badly written as well

Name a genuinely funny Friends bit that isn't either:
>Ross pretending to watch TV, or
>Joey pushing Ross into his fridge
You can't

eh, there's plenty of anons doing the same here with 70s and 80s shows or movies. I'm suprised Friends had this much staying power though, I really thought it'd stay within the 90s gen.

The next 2 major sitcoms being blatant ripoffs probably helped.

I like the one when Gary Oldman spits all over Joey, the one with Joey speaking french, the one when Phoebe moves with Rachel and complains about Pottery barn, the one where Ursula does porn, the one where they play that question game betting the apartment, the whole Monica X Richard relationship, the one where Joey has to keep Chandler and Monicaยดs secret... The one where Joeyยดs tailor is a very bad man to Chandler.

I believe there is enough to like in the show. IDK if 10 seasons worth but enough to justify at least watching specific episodes.

The break is irrelevant. He didn't sleep with that girl because they were on a break, he slept with that girl because he thought Rachel was sleeping with Mark. He was wrong about that, but it's what he thought when he overheard Mark in the apartment over the phone and that's what pushed him to sleep with that girl. The girl also totally took advantage of his emotional state and he was drinking but I guess that excuse doesn't work for men.
Either way "I thought you cheated first" doesn't make for a good catchphrase, so they made him latch onto the break thing for cheap laughs.

Well, he's not an asshole. Raj is. He is rude quite often and doesn't have anything likeable about him.
