It's a little subtle, but before that there was a scene where his horse said "I don't think hormonal therapy as an act of manipulating your body by artificial means is healthy for pre-pubescent children, even if doesn't cause immediate physical side effects" and John Blinders couldn't stand a transphobic horse in his stable so he had to shoot it.
