It was already their show, Netflix bought the rights and approved Lauren's vision for it. Henry offered himself up to be hired later and agreed to terms. By all accounts they (Netflix/Lauren) did a terrible job with the show on every conceivable level, but Henry came onboard as a hired hand to turn up, read his lines and look good doing it.

If he'd been smart, he might have tried to leverage his star power into abandoning plan for a series written by Lauren and his team and pitched a Witcher helmed by someone more experienced with taste closer to his own instead. Or to just have walked away, accepting that not every actor gets to star in an adaptation of his favourite material, that it's a fucking job, and he will always have video games at home.

Yeah, I'm a reasonably successful screenwriter. Never worked on the Witcher, and everything I post about it is anecdotal. Personally I think the show's a flaming pile of crap.

Henry agreed to be paid to turn up and play a part, as written in a script. The scripts had been written by Lauren Schmidt and her team, and the studio were happy with them. Ergo nothing was fucked, Henry simply didn't like the scripts, refused to do his job, decided to fuck things, and was eventually told to fuck off.

Had Henry not liked the initial scripts, or lacked confidence in the creators of the project he could have simply opted to not sign up to do it.

Harrison Ford's a vile old cunt, but even he knows that when he's doing a franchise job he's there to collect a paycheque and go home. Yes, the role an actor plays can be subject to change once a project is underway, and can ultimately be cut entirely, but that's the deal they've signed up for, and an acceptable risk when your job is essentially playing make believe.

You can't do an end run around your boss or whoever is in charge of a production just because you're unhappy with the direction. Even season 1 of The Witcher was mediocre so he probably just wanted off once he was how it turned out. Jumping between timelines/stories was jarring. It was like they were trying to be GOT but couldn't tard wrangle the showrunner/directors/writers.
