I liked the dog pouncing on his injured master.
Unfortunately that's about all there is to like in this film, a select few scenes that made you laugh.
No thematic commentary (in-your-face geopolitical exposition is not thematic commentary).

The fact that Netanyahu, Engineer, Ultraman and the kaiju all got murdered by the heroes. Every one of them except Lex got fucking wrecked. I'm sick of the precedent Raimi and Nolan set with their cop outs, "duhhh hyackshually the heroes didnt kill the bad guy cause they uhh killed themselves."

could have been a better movie if they just removed Superman and just had the metahumans led by the Green Lantern.
they literally would have just had to name Luther something else, and basically keep the same movie.
Making this a Superman movie was box office sales bait. Reason #8 it's close to a decade since I've payed for a movie ticket.

Just got back from the theater with my nephew. I liked the tone a lot. The movie is right that making an optimistic, positive movie these days feels "punk rock" in a way. There's a million hacks who would make an edgy Superman instead and only a handful that would make him genuinely nice.

I don't really know anything about Green Lantern, but I was 100% confident that he would turn out to be evil, get killed or arrested at the end, and have some sort of end credits where a worthy black guy got the ring instead. I liked that in the end he was just a weird Green Lantern depiction

The delivery of the main acting trio was stellar, the justice gang was funny, Krypto almost murdering Lex was hilarious and the final scene with the human flashbacks was the emotional high point of the movie. And that single scene with Supergirl was enough to get me interested in her movie.
I unironically believe the film was fine for the most part, but the lack of more quiet scenes really hurt the story. I'm not a fucking Ipad kid, I needed more moments of levity

This is really my big problem with it. There's one boring apartment scene with Lois, and then the rest is flying or other dimensions or foreign wars. It needed more normalcy and relatability and I would've been very happy with it.

There's no this retarded (usually reserved to DC) morality of "either you kill no one at all and allow Joker to drop nukes on cities, or you're literally Hitler"

Heroes in family friendly entertainment have been pulling that shit since the 40s. Superman himself did that in golden age stories and the radio show. The Shadow did it all the time on radio. Itโ€™s just a dramatic staple to have the villain die by his own trap, hoist on his own petard, etc.

Explicitly killed by Hawkgirl. Only one close to murder and not in any way close to Batman letting Ra's die.
>Engineer
Explicitly said to still be alive.
>Ultraman
Sucked into a black hole that Superman in no way caused or could have prevented.

Killed because it was destroying Metropolis. It's not a person so it's not murder, and it wouldn't be murder even if was human.

there's no way Hawkgirl would give an accurate report as to what happened, especially not to Superman himself. Lex himself was only arrested, and the political ramifications of "metahumans" murdering heads of state wouldn't just have gone away because of Lex and this specific guy being exposed.

Hawkgirl being the secret dirty cop in the Justice Gang is such an interesting idea and I hope they do something with it.

no, Marlon Brando is far more important in the Reeve movies. generally the idea of Kal's Kryptonian parents being morally upstanding figures is VERY central to Superman, its makes him a saviour figure from birth.

this movie doesn't just "make them evil", it gives them all the trappings of being good and implies that they don't realize that they're evil, which is much edgier and more interesting.

you are now aware that if Gunn wants to do a Zod movie, he doesn't even need to be a rebel leader. Zod can arrive on Earth and lecture Superman for forgetting his heritage with total sincerity and boom we have a fully authentic colonialism metaphor.

That's a subtle thing where in the beginning, it seems like Clark hasn't really seen his adopted parents in a while,he's in contact with them but he's busy and they sort of pester him to visit them more. When he's healing from an injury, he asks his robots to play a recording of his Kryptonian parents because he finds it soothing, even though it's just a partial recording.
At the end of the movie, after he sees the rest of his parents' message and learns they wanted him to take over the planet and breed with the women, and after he goes back to his adopted parents' farm to rejuvenate before the final battle, he ends up back in the fortress again to heal, but this time he has the robots play a recording of his childhood with the Kents.
