At that depth, every cubic meter of water displaced by the sub was equivalent to 10 kg of TNT. So the energy equivalent of 50 kg of TNT was imploded *inward* at them and the sub's contents.
They were instantly turned to pink mist which was then probably turned to plasma by the incredible heat and pressure, remember PV = nRT.
Basically, the only way they could have been destroyed more completely and instantaneously is if they had been at the epicenter of a nuclear bomb or the Chicxulub Impact. Overkill doesn't begin to describe it.

I can't believe not one person has mentioned the fact that they all wore street clothes in the sub. No wetsuits, no scuba tanks, no escape hatch (the first sub stockton made had a top hatch). It would be like if paratroopers jumped from a plane with no parachutes and a documentary was made blaming the plane. It makes no sense. I was screaming at my tv while watching this documentary. They have balloons on wetsuits that inflate which would've brought them to the surface. And before you say "the water is so cold, they would have frozen to death", they could have put hot water in the wetsuits to insulate them and the rescue ship above could have easily found them if they wore orange or yellow wetsuits. It's almost as if Stockton didn't put any thought into this project.

The thing is - the whole operation was so FUCKED you can't even say that carbon fiber was the issue with a 100% certainty. Yes, it was likely the root cause, but there's so many factors on top of it 1) the craftsmanship and carbon fiber itself were third-grade, there's even text messaged in Netflix docs where they called their carbon fiber used or something? 2) they just left the sub in a port under Canadian winter weather for like 6 months, you wouldn't even do that to your fucking car 3) they changed companion ship to a much cheaper one and it would drag the sub behind it on a platform, so it was literally getting beat up by the weather and waves for days.

It's clear that by the end of it the company was in dire financial situation and a lof of their decisions are a direct result of it. I think CEO reazlied they're fucked, so he just decided that either everything works out fine magically or he disappears into red mist in half a second and doesn't have to think about it anymore.

Yeah, the two likely failure points are the carbon fiber, or the glue to hold the titanium hubs failed. Both would engage in fatigue over time, and would eventually fail. The hull would bend and expand with pressure, which would weaken the connection to the glue, eventually letting water into the seal, which would eventually lead to catastrophic collapse. Or the hull had enough fractures it just failed as well catastrophically.

So either one would doom the hull. The design is only okay for single use, and only then maybe with some robotics equipment not people. But then why bother with the carbon fiber hull to begin with?!

He was so sure he was a genius who saw something no one else saw, and he just doubled down on that. He genuinely didn't think he was gonna die, but could just skirt above catastrophe endlessly.

When you work in tech companies idiots like this appear all the time. THe only thing is that once there's catastrophic collapse, the company just goes under, then they declare bankrupsy or are bought out. Instead here they literally all just explode and their mangled body parts are ejected into the deep sea to be consumed by marine life.

>a safety system that can be ignored isn't a safety system
Because it isn't. Why do you think fire alarms are loud? Why do you think when someone pulls a fire alarm in a school all the kids still walk outside even if it's a prank?
A safety system requires three things
>a way to measure the unsafeness of a thing, too much smoke, carbon dioxide etc
>An alert for the unsafe thing, whether it be an alarm, a red line on a grid, a blinking light
>A protocol for what do when the thing is measuring the thing alerts you to its unsafeness
If there is no protocol in place for passing the recline, if no one on the company could overrule the stockton then they didn't have a safety system. They had acoustic pick ups on the sub tracking it's eventual demise, but not preventing anything. And I know this because everyone died

The most striking thing about the Titan submersible was the fact that there were no scuba tanks and cold weather escape gear for the passengers. I'm sure the passengers didn't have PADI certification, so their deaths were assured in case of a hull rupture, which, in fact, is what ended up happening.

There is literally zero way to ever use that equipment. You can't just open the door and leave. The water will never come in nice and slow at any point. And with equipment like that, you don't just throw it on and head off like it's super easy to use. Any effort and expense they'd put into some sort of escape gear should have be put into making the sub safe in the first place.

I'm an insurance underwriter. I would never have certified that sub with a hatch that locks from the outside. I would have required, at a minimum, an extra hatch that can be opened from the inside, a tested escape plan with equipment, and forty hours of classroom training for passengers and eight hours of live escape training before I would have even thought about writing Stockton or any of the passengers a policy. I specialize in aviation policies. When I write a policy for helicopter touring companies, I insist that passengers receive at least cursory instruction on the operation of rotary craft and hazards. I also require life vests for the passengers on every craft. Whoever underwrote Stockton's policy was incompetent and should lose their licensing.

I won't be a dick because I think in your mind you're likely thinking of survivable depths. At the depths they were at no one survives. Almost every submarine lost in the history of submarines has resulted in the total deaths of all passengers. So, not being a dick, but the lack of scuba equipment wasn't the catastrophic failure or the reason these people died. It popped around a depth 3000k meters, scuba wouldn't have saved them
>I specialize in aviation policies. When I write a policy for helicopter touring companies, I insist that passengers receive at least cursory instruction on the operation of rotary craft and hazards.
Yes anon, oceangate was not a safety first operation
> I also require life vests for the passengers on every craft. Whoever underwrote Stockton's policy was incompetent and should lose their licensing.
As far as I know their policies aren't public but they unlikely covered the sub, which is why they had everyone sign waivers, which aren't going to get them put of liability, but could mitigate damages

so the last thing he did was type
>dropped 2 weights
moments before it imploded

in the recently released video you can hear the actual implosion right before his wife receives the message about dropping weights

so they were likely silent while Crush Stockton was typing that message to the surface

but I think 2 weights was more than normal, in the video where that mexican dude takes a trip, around 3000 meters they lost communication, so they decided to go back up because it was dangerous and they dropped 1 weight
before they could drop more, communication came back so they continued the descent

but since they dropped 1 weight, they needed to use the thrusters to go down because descent was otherwise way to slow at that point

so when Crush dropped 2 weights moments before the implosion, it makes me think they they really wanted to slow the descent for some reason

they likely were hearing cracks or something that made them want to slow the descent that much

even his wife made a comment how they wanted to go down really slowly after reading the message about dropping 2 weights

so to answer your question, my guess would be dead silence as they shat their pants to the cracking noises while Crush typed the message

the sudden change in descent may have triggered the implosion

also, fun fact:
they found Crush's sleeve, business cards, a few stickers, and a pen in tact after the implosion

i always wondered why, until i saw the CBS Sunday documentary:
the motherfucker had a pocket in his sleeve where he kept a pen that he used on the touch screen, he likely had those stickers and business card in that pocket too

I'd rather have a nufag effort post than a nufag try to fit in by bitching about reddit spacing

i have this morbid curiosity and look up as much footage of people inside the sub as i can

so i can ramble on and on about it without organizing the format it comes out in

He should have focused on smaller submersibles for lakes that only go down 10 or 20 meters.

The debris being found shows they weren't atomized like the CGI vidoes show. Instead I think they were crushed, then violently expelled as the two titanium hubs were also ejected. Crunch + spray. Kind of like taking a tube of cookie dough and pressing really hard on it, and all the shit comes out the ends.

The point I'm making is that individually some pieces would be intact, and you'd get chunks of shit. It would be sprayed quite far, and ocean drifts would carry it, and animal life would nibble on it so not much is left.

only debate is whether the critical failure was at the joints connecting the titanium hub to the carbon fiber body, or the carbon fiber itself snapping. Each as as likely.

Yeah, that's tourist shit where you pay like 50-100 for each ride. You can't make millions on this.

He thought he was gonna be the Elon Musk of the sea, and he'd make a sub making company where they make thousands of these shitty little subs after getting some investment after showing the concept works (lol).

I wasn't saying commercial rides, consumer submersibles for lakes. But as I type that I just realize he would have made a depth trap for families.
