It's a Golan/Globus movie it's exactly that. It's a bad movie but it's cheesy, corny and cheap. It's more watchable than a lot of Superman movies, but it's because it's so bad.

Quest for Peace is way better. Superman III is just as goofy as IV, but it's dominated by Richard Pryor who gets way too scenes, many of which are really dumb (he puts on a cape and skis off a building for some reason,).and seems to overshadow Superman. The villain is totally underwhelming, just a flat Lex Luthor clone.

In Quest for Peace, you get the actual Lex Luthor again, which is preferable, and Nuclear Man is actually a pretty cool idea in theory. Superman actually fighting a supervillain again is much better than Richard Pryor pressing a button that suddenly turns Superman into a jerk. The fight on the moon demonstrates the low budget, but you can see the potential. Lois comforting sick Clark at his apartment is tender and vulnerable, and it ends with one of the most Superman speeches ever.

You have to give them credit for criticizing the military industrial complex at least. The message of most superhero movies today is "Let the government operatives do whatever they want with no rules. They're superheroes - it's not your place to criticize."
