Is it even possible to make a Superman movie that does well anymore? Even Aquaman and WW did better.

Yes. They need to have someone that’s as handsome and jacked as Cavill was in Man of Steel, but he also has to look really cool in scenes and be both extremely optimistic, manly, and patriotic. So basically it will never, ever be made because deconstruction is the only thing Hollywood can or will do.

movies make money today by tapping into a simplistic pre-existing impression in the audience's minds, not the content of the film itself.

"Superman only better" just makes people think they're being asked to watch something they didn't like before. "more Dinosaurs" turned out to be more alluring to enough people.

I think Gunn is trying to make it look bad on purpose

I'm not a "THE BATMAN IS THE GREATEST MOVIE EVAR" type but there's a bunch of shit in this where it seems like Gunn is blatantly trying to shill to Matt Reeves that they should merge universes with stuff like Superman's eyes being bloodshot red after using supervision and the """""""""bad on purpose"""""""" camera stuff during the flying scenes seems to be trying to ape the one wingsuit stuff The Batman too

The time was late 00s and early 2010s. The reboot was average, and then the Snyderverse was way too polarizing. Now after the pandemic, streaming taking a good chunk out of the moviegoing audience and the DCEU on its third attempt at a reboot just killed any possibility of a Superman movie being good. WB/DC need to step down, stick to animation and put live action back in storage till 2040.
>>212629233
The problem is WB. There articles that quote Gunn as saying that the movie doesn't need to do 700mil to be profitable, and more around 500mil mark. However, that is not what investors want to hear when you've practically rebooted the universe three times by now. If this does do 500-700 million, WB is going to shit itself and Gunn will lose a ton of influence. Its no wonder Reeves was allowed to continue his Batman. I don't think anyone at WB had faith in this movie actually breaking ground. Given how had WB is doing in its movie and videogame divisions, this shit needed to be a 1 billion hit to justify further investment in the DCEU.

Of course, and they know how to, they aren't that stupid. They are unwilling. Very unwilling. A tall, heroic-looking, stoic Superman who doesn't indulge in petty nonsense and carries some personal mystery around with him. Kids can't get enough. An otherworldly challenger appears that is legitimately scary. (Not evil superman general, or a giant dog. that's not otherworldly) Lois Lane is perky, smart, unwise, gorgeous, and always needing to be saved (she engineers that a little) Lana Lane (or some other woman) is present for competition. Superman must sacrifice something in order to save everyone. Superman makes some choice that no human could make to save everyone. It's really not hard, they just hate white men with a deep, burning passion (they lust after them and are jealous of them and they hate themselves for that)

I disagree, while watching the first half of this movie I felt the second half of the movie is gonna have lot off payoffs and i I like it enough I might watch it again. A well written movie would give such payoff that compels the audience for repeat watches as well as spreading word of mouth which leads to those big opening weekend numbers

Gunn, Superman only has one more weekend in the clear before FF4 comes out. Pedro Pascal and his cabal of lonely females in their 30s will take Corenswet to the back of the theater, bust his knees with a baseball bat and then proceed to chop them off and present them to their parasocial relationship husband.

"Adjusted for inflation" is the biggest brainlet meme of all time. You do not adjust for inflation when comparing movie successes, you still just do it the traditional way. Money made - money spent.

>B-b-b-b-but inflation means money is m-
It goes both ways, retard. The change of value in the box office means that it's also a change in value of the production. A dollar spent producing a movie in 2013 is not the same as a dollar spent producing a movie in 2025. They both changed the same way.

Spider-Man is probably the most popular capeshit character around the world, period. I thought globally it's between him and Batman. Plus No Way Home had huge fucking hype from bringing back pre-existing characters and villains that were long-time favorites. It's no contest. No, nobody likes Hawkgirl, sorry. People actually did like Cavill, even if he had almost no personality. Corensweat is barely a presence in his own film.

Im not a /co/ fag, but where does Superman rank in popularity among DC characters? I ask this, because imo Superman is just a boring hero not much you can do with a literal god character. You cant treat it seriously, because its a man in fucking spandex, and you cant make a simple superhero movie, because hes so strong there are no stakes.

Maybe if they adhered to the source material rather than attempt reinventing and subverting things they´d get more traction. Way i see it most people have never experienced the good comic scripts and among the one that had you have those that have only experienced them through animated adaptations and those that have actually read the comics, both would probably love a decent adaptation.

The only ones audience that could be potentially lost with these approach are the social media retards that want every character in existence modified fit their political world views. We could do without that cancer.

People across the world are sick of America and Hollywood. Superheroes display a kind of American exceptionalism where they constantly save humanity and the world from evil.

America doesn't do that, though.

Genuinely who the fuck rewatches a movie? I won't ever rewatch unless a movie is really good, and not until quite sometime later.

Normal people rewatch shit after a while. Nerds do it right after they saw it, again and again.

maybe Snyder shouldn't have asked for money to make a film he knew couldn't be profitable. he basically burned bridges with Warner by forcing them to pay for a 4-hour vanity project.

It’s doing well, don’t listen to the stupid Snyderjeets. Superman does not have a built in audience like MCU or Jurassic Park. People that will go regardless of reviews or word of mouth. This movie is doing what Batman Begins had to do after Batman and Robin ruined Batman. Begins had a mediocre opening weekend but good reviews and word of mouth gave it legs, showing if was building an audience. Video sales improved it abs by time Dark Knight came along it made a billion.

Maybe if they let him pop off, but when he flexed even a little bit they reeled him in. I doubt he's putting in more then the bare minimum after being told "yeah having the audacity to do a trans-atlantic accent was too much"

Lot of the biggest blockbusters are the ones that have people rewatching them. They first watch it with friends, then again with family then maybe with work colleagues

It’s got an over 75% would recommend to see it audience score from all exit polls. That’s solid word of mouth and what a movie like this needs when it doesn’t got a built in audience. Superman isn’t Spider Man

It´s not just about being faithful but about delivering the best stories and versions of the characters. Plus the original medium on which a character appears often helps it make sense. For example neither Bats nor Sups make any sense in the real world, context heavily defines both of them so it needs to be recreated as well.

America is anti-America.
Maybe if Americans had something to be proud of again people wouldn't hate them several much.
People aren't going to go to see movies made by the people who are the problem with America just because they also hate America.
