The problem is it wasn't a movie. Its a long stupid boring contrived advertisement for the next movie.
Most of the movie is just dumb shit happening and they wander from one scene to the next until its time to have a star wars battle.
Especially when the ant man movies were always a bit lower stakes and not about some world ending threat, just stopping an asshole from getting something.

What gets me is that the comics didn't get into the multiverse shit until the comics had been running for decades and continuity was so long and snarled and sometimes cohabited with certain stories, but only sometimes.
After that had pretty much mined every single bit of content they could and had nowhere else to go, you start getting multiverses to reset an consolidate and clarify things.
And adapting infinity war across your first big sweeping arc isn't a bad idea, but there are dozens of other big stupid cross series events you can bring in without needing a half dozen movies about multiverses (where you might get lucky and see one other universe).
