Bergman was a Nazi when he was a little kid because Nazis had fun things to do like Hitler youth, and it was the norm for the kids around him (he spent summers in Germany) to idolize Hitler. He wasn’t a true believer

Correction, he used to be a nazi when he was younger.
>The director also acknowledged his past Nazi sympathies in his 1987 memoir The Magic Lantern: “For many years, I was on Hitler’s side, delighted by his success and saddened by his defeats.” He told Boëthius that he maintained support for the Nazis until the end of the war, when the exposure of Nazi atrocities in the Holocaust changed his views. “When the doors to the concentration camps were thrown open,” he said, “I was suddenly ripped of my innocence.” Bergman went on to explore anguish over the horrors of war in such films as Winter Light, The Silence and Shame.

If you aren’t a member of the Nazi party or the SS you aren’t a Nazi. You might be a fascist or be sympathized to Nazism but “Nazi” is a an overused and dead identifier. Same with Bolshevik which doesn’t exist anymore as all the OG Bolsheviks are dead.

Robert A Heinlein was a sci-fi writer who was also a nazi in the 1940s. When the makers of Starship Troopers (one of his works) learned of this, they shit the bed. Heinrich Harrer was a German explorer in search for Shangri-La. Hollywood even made a movie about it starring Brad Pitt called "Seven Years in Tibet." Harrer himself? Actually a nazi doing that nazi-cult thing with trying to consolidate the reich with supernatural powers by seeking out lost treasures. Brad Pitt would like to forget that he starred as Harrer and depicted him positively.

>Heinrich Harrer was a German explorer in search for Shangri-La.

He was a mountain climber who was arrested in India by the British authorities when WW2 started and then as a POW he escaped to Tibet. He had Nazi membership and military rank but he didn’t participate in any battles and was cleared of any pre-war related crimes in Nazi Germany. He wasn’t a Nazi occultist and his writings have never shown such views

What's funny is that Harrer was Austrian so in this movie when he sets off to go to Tibet the German Nazi journalists tells him he's the pride of Germany or whatever and he's like "actually I'm Austrian" meanwhile the real Harrer was a German nationalist who was already a member of the Austrian NSDAP when it was still illegal.

Hollywood stuff.
