Smallville definitely has its high points. Probably the best live action Lex ever. And perhaps by virtue of being an overlong prequel that could only revere the Superman of the future we would never see, rather than underwhelm us with one of their own, the show build up the gravitas and awe of Superman like no other TV or movie could. See Dr. Fate speech related, Christopher Reeves's dialogue with Clark, or the vision of Superman living to the end of the universe in season 1.
