I still dont understand why he made a movie about a 2 hour slow chase scene. Thats like the most un Star Wars plot you could have.

He's a moron who makes bad films but he did a great service crashing Disney Wars. After Force Awakens, Disney saw a green light to pump out whatever garbage they saw fit, and his masterwork of garbage was secretly trolling anti-art. He killed the franchise dead. Excellent work, Rian. Really.

>one fleet is chasing another fleet through the whole galaxy and the bad guys can't catch up since they're going at the same speed
>during this the good guys devise a plan to send an away team to get a hacker (?!?!) instead of sending an away team to get fuel, which they are running out of
>for this crucial mission they pick the one guy that could be a spy since he's an ex-stormtrooper
>this guy also never comes into any scrutiny, despite the rebels best efforts to see who the spy is

I really don't understand the entire process of writing this movie. Did they not read the plot or the script at all and were just fed random pages every day out of some website that randomly produces plot beats?

You know Star Wars is in a bad place when a character Twitter made up to mock the EU is the first thing that springs to mind when discussing the series.

real talk: all you need to do is rip off some classic story or another (say Jack and the Beanstalk), insert space things and sci-fi jargon, and come up with a particular idea for an action set piece, preferably in an environment that hasn't been done to death (say a jousting tournament in a gothic castle).
You now have the bones of a SW movie.

The prevailing logic behind Disney Star Wars was
>holy shit theyโ€™ll gobble up everything from this brand no matter how shit
And then found out that wasnโ€™t the case

Same thing happened with paramount/cbs nu Star Trek

All they have are memberberries. Trashed the EU, no Starkiller, everything HAS to connect to the Skywalker Saga (even Acolyte had that fucking Plagueis cameo).

But it's not like Disney had hundereds of books, graphic novels, games, and other stuff with beloved well-developed characters to work with. Then again, Disney would've defiled Sunrider or Revan.

For those curious, Rian said they did literally nothing. No plot outline or anything. The announcement that his trilogy was being made was the full extent of work on the trilogy.

>planet where the people are very poor, and are ruled by literal giants
>son of a humble artisan gets pissy about his station in society
>steals some armor and weapons forged by papa
>busts into the giants' palace, drinks wine, steals gold, and poopoos on their rug
>gets caught by idiot son of the family, cuts his head off, runs
>the giants flip their shit, start shoving people into de-atomizing chambers, and replacing all of the labor on the planet with droids
>the people band together in a peasant's revolt, storm the castle (there's a big battle scene where they ride giant dragonflies over the outer wall), kill all of the giants, roast them on a big fire, and eat them

The sheer amount of stupid plot elements in the Last Jedi is essentially the entire script of the Last Jedi. I'm glad this dweeb is fading away.

I had this exact same discussion around 7 years ago with my brother. I kept trying to get him to watch Wall Street (because I love it) and he essentially said you could do Wall Street on Coruscant and you have a Star Wars movie.
It's the Credit Exhange and Bud Fox is some loser living in the lower levels trying to make it. Some nobleman is GG and is manipulating the markets get rich in the power vacuum after the Emperor's death.

The one thing I've noticed is that people ache and groan over the plot points but the reality is that the movie just isn't fun to watch. It's a dreary slog with very few enjoyable moments and forced humour. I actually enjoyed the titty milk walrus though, just felt out of place in a SW flick.

This is called a stern chase in naval terms, and it has an old provenance in military and films.

There's nothing inherently wrong with the idea.
