This movie helped me to understand the Boomers a bit better. I think I get them a little bit more now that I've watched it.

The Boomers basically got high in the 1960s and 70s the way nobody's ever gotten high before. An impossible high, the greatest high in history. Then it went away, and they've been chasing it ever since.

Boomers had the greatest story arc of all human history. Imagine being the first generation ever in history to try drugs, real drugs. Then you got to fuck tons of sluts who were discovering “free love” no Tinder accounts needed. Then you got the inflation adjusted equivalent of a $400k salary just by giving some fag a firm handshake. All you had to do to make generational wealth in the 70s-90s was invest your salary in anything - literally anything - and hold on to it.

There’s no one less deserving of sympathy than a poor boomer. The only way that could have happened is deeply unfixable character flaws.

Uh yeah retard, a drug that makes you talk to aliens for 12 hours is a real drug. Nothing like that existed before. No one was doing pure cocaine or heroin either before the boomer generation.

you couldn't get that high in the 60s the drugs weren't potent then. a $40 dab of modern day dispensary budder or wax will get you higher than anyone got until the 1980s

Boomers actually did work pretty hard they just existed in an ecosystem where working hard almost always had tangible results. That sort of thing doesn't really exist anymore, and most boomer companies (the most successful) are just being merged into giant conglomerates now. It's just a world that doesn't exist anymore, for better or worse.

There will never be a mix of psychedelics, eastern philosophy, and western sensibilities quite like in the 60s and 70s. Boomers really thought they figured it out, they solved the puzzle of life and transcended, and then you look at them now, blowing thousands on themselves, throwing away the futures of their children and their ancestors. This movie is presented like a high, a crazy drug trip full of whacky things and crazy highs, but just like the boomers who now scramble to find some semblance of purpose and meaning, this movie/book exposes it all.

You can't really attribute that to one generation alone. That being said, it's somewhat astounding how little they seem to understand how much something like a house is now compared to wages they earned. I don't really even blame them much for it because 99% of the time its just raw ignorance. A lot of them have lived in the same house forever and only care about how much more it costs to repair HVAC, get a new roof, etc. They only get it when someone close to them is affected, which is rare because it wasn't a problem when anyone but their kids needed to buy a house. It's also gotten much, much worse in the past 10 years or so.

Another point in their defense is that the 'greatest generation' kind of took it as granted that as long as they paid the bills they didn't need to put any more effort into actually raising their kids, and they took that to heart. To many them the idea that a parent owes their kids anything more than keeping them fed till age 18 is genuinely ridiculous.

Yeah, getting kicked out at 18 was common or even normal for them. But it was also easy to find somewhere else to stay for peanuts compared to what its like now. Everything has just become very streamlined, and jacked up. Can't really stay in some random extra room anymore as a lessee, I mean I'm sure that still exists but it was common back then, along with people generally being more collaborative locally because no internet or even phones outside the house. I think younger people just don't understand it, and vice versa. A lot of change in a short period of time.
