My most favourite theme in this Superman movie would be Clark's relationship with Ma and Pa Kent.
The movie opened with Clark listening to Jor-El and Lara's message, in an almost blissful state. It's as if he's a baby being cradled by their voice. He memorized the words by heart that he was repeating it to provide himself comfort.
Next, cut to the introduction of Martha and Jonathan, it was a complete flip. Clark was very distant. He can't even fake being polite to his mom and dad. One word answers with neutral tone. Then, through Ma Kent's dialogue, we now know that Clark has not returned to Smallville in a long time(or even been contacting them regularly).
He has been fully embracing his life as Superman of Metropolis. He got his modern job. His modern apartment. His superior purpose as the savior of humanity.

Clark Kent from Smallville is the baggage.
Superman.... That's his destiny.
In a turn of events, turns out his Kryptonian parents, Lara and Jor-El, did not only give him a message to be a beacon of light to the world, but also to enslave it and use it for his sole benefit.
Faced with this, Superman OR Clark has to contend with their identity. Who actually am I? What am I supposed to do? What is my purpose if I had got their message wrong?
After this, a series of complicated events occur. We then skip to Superman who was beaten and bruised, returning home to the farm that he grew up on. To the parents who had raised him from childhood to adulthood.
Now he has to contend with the fact that his Kryptonian parents were not that good of a people. And his earthly parents, always got his back. Even when he doesn't have theirs.
I love that he appears slightly shameful to John and Martha. Because of course you will. You abandoned your older parents for cooler, shinier, holographic, kryptonian ones. Only for them to not live up to your expectations. Whereas the ones you left behind always believe that you will live up to theirs.
Oh boy. There's really good writing for this theme as we get too see this relationship goes full circle. I really enjoyed being able to dissect it.
I also like the relationship between Clark/Superman and Lois, the "Justice Gang[TBD]", and the Metropolitans. But I won't write more because this is too long as it is. Maybe in the comments, who knows?

There was another anon on a different thread last night claiming to be from Kansas that basically say the nu-Pa and Ma aren't the most traditional adaptions but he appreciated it cause they authentically represent what Kansan farmers are like. Cool insight if he was being legit

it's not just the music, being punkrock means going against the grain, being true to yourself, not selling out, not conforming. Superman is now punk rock because all the things that he considers strengths are seen as weakness today
