The prawns are like an insectoid race. The leader caste died before reaching Earth so the worker caste is all restless and aimless and acting retarded, they are worthless without their leaders telling them what to do through pheromones or whatever.

Then we've got Christopher which I believe is supposed to be from some sort of engineering caste. He's not powerful enough to command the other prawns but seems to be smarter and has his own initiative and understands the tech so probably an engineer caste.
