I'm assuming it's not easy. At multiple points in this movie Lex says he can do things that he cannot, overstating his competence due to hubris. There's probably some sort of Project Cadmus in this universe and "Ultraman" was a failed but still useful attempt at cloning Superman.

>There was also the black hole about to swallow metropolis
You'll basically be told there is a double standard cause of the outrage over Zod and not this. I guess it's technically correct but I maintain that Zod's neck snapped was basically for people the straw that broke the camel's back, after stuff like "Krypton had its chance", Superman not seeming to be at all outraged and grief-stricken by all the death in Metropolis, the overly long fight where he is utterly heedless of the destruction and does stuff like basically fly above a truck to let it collide with a people and explode, etc. etc. Him viscerally killing Zod was simply the moment that put people at their wit's end. It's fine if you enjoyed this interpretation of Superman but it is equally fine people were not fussed on this version of a character as old and iconic as Superman

*collide with a building

Also the fact Zod, despite being genetically engineered, is obviously far more of an individual than the clone also explains why the perceptions differ so much for the audience. Snyder fans will point to a double standard without exploring the logical reasons as to why there is one that isn't some schizoid conspiracy against a genius or people being subhuman apes that are all beneath them

In the context of the movie, it was an incredibly powerful moment and visceral. But the only reason it gets its reputation is because the scene was the first thing that was leaked when the movie came out and the narrative took root way too soon and has never let up 13 years later. It's just a "truth limps while falsehood flies" sort of thing. Lex in this movie was also ruined. he's an even worse, more embarrassing and juvenile than BvS Lex.

people didnt like the boys comic because of the ending. i thought it was a cool twist and made at least a little sense. homelander doesnt remember doing evil stuff because the clone did it BECAUSE the clones only purpose was to stop homelander if he was to go crazy and kill everyone but since homelander wasnt going crazy and killing everyone the clone had to somehow force it to happen.

so the clone takes pics of itself doing crazy shit and homelander seeing the crazy shit like eating babies and whatnot and being super disturbed by it, starts to do moderately crazy shit and murder in an attempt to stop his apparent alter ego from taking over and doing even worse things. then he slippery slopes into taking over the country and the clone gets to stop him

awesome twist

There is a massive amount of dissonance seeing Superman murder someone to save one family after seeming so cavalier in the aftermath of downton destroyed (basically 9/11 on roads) and heedlessness over collateral during the fight, but your explanation about the leaks was a contributing factor too. The dissonance also repeats at the end during the happy Daily Planet scene at the end in the time after the city was attacked so traumatically.

They brought this back for the new Superman as well. After so many buildings had collapsed like dominos, the rift gets fixed and some buildings get slowly pushed back together but are still obviously broken and about to collapse. Despite this, the human side-characters start hugging, clapping, and smiling at it, like it's all saved.

Much of the downtown was in ruins down the middle but Metropolis is huge and like, people's homes are probably mostly fine outside of some apartments. Besides, this movie makes sure to mention that everyone got out safely and the city was evacuated, to where it was an issue that the other city wasn't. In Man of Steel, there are countless deaths in the city and several of the collapsing buildings are CAUSED by Superman himself, which is not the case here.

The concept behind Noir works perfectly in the end, though, because he's like 10% stronger than Homelander, not twice as much

That means he kills Homelander and in the process Homelander fucks him up so badly that the military is able to put him down with conventional weaponry

God the most cowardly part of the comic is that they don't show the fight, just Butcher diving away and the aftermath
