How did Anora manage to be better than all the recent Best Picture Oscar (BPO) winners? I mean, yes, she is an incredible actress (and is also working with a good personality and a deep knowledge of film as seen in her Criterion Closet Collection episode) but it's like Anora has completely blown all the other BPO winners out of the water while also working with more subdued subject matter. What was the last BPO winner that was even close to as good as Anora?

>For Anora, Sean Baker has stated that his intentions were to "help remove the stigma that's been applied to sex work, that's always been applied to this livelihood." Andrea Werhun, a Canadian writer and actress best known for her 2018 memoir Modern Whore about her prior time as a sex worker, served as a creative consultant on the film.

Either I don't know what subdued means or you don't, can you elaborate?
I recall the move opening with a fuck ton of shaking asses and titties which occupied quite a lot of the run time.

in reality, i dont agree with it getting an oscar at all, but its still not a bad movie. its kinda baffling how low standards have sunk for it to be even considered a winner if you ask me. theyve been nominating marvel shit and marviel tier shit for a while now in all kinds of categories, which is insane if you think about it for even an iota.

I really do think her appreciation for films like Easy Rider does a lot to establish her credibility as an artist.

I thought it was a pretty good movie, she never saw him as a person and he never saw her as a person. He was always upfront about paying her too.
She was just using him and he was using her, but she still got hurt because her dreams of a better life were shattered, not because she actually cared for him.

It was a very human movie without being cringe about it. Also the girl was hot and the setting comfy. I liked it.

This movie isn't good. It's just fashionable right now for whores to congratulate themselves.
