>When a character is unexpectedly interrupted, for example, they are killed, the subtitles shouldn't give that away with a "-" character. Just show what the character was going to say.

This is something that really needs to get fixed in the film industry and even game industry.
>Pic related (even if it is from a game)

Lot of tards itt but I was just thinking about this a few days ago. Rather than the complete sentence, the caption text should be formatted to appear as though it's too much to fit onscreen at once, so you're not given dialogue that doesn't actually occur.

I agree desu, though I think it should just show the line up to what he was saying since subs sometimes cut off for the 2nd part

Not OP but imagine you are watching a heist movie with subtitles and one of the guys is saying "HEY MAN WE FUCKING DID IT WE'RE RICH WE GOT THE FUCKING MONEY!!! LET'S SPLIT THE MONEY AND GO ON VACATION!" but mid sentence he gets shot and killed, the subtitles would be like "LET'S SPLIT THE MONEY AND GO ON VAC-" letting you know he dies (or at least gets interrupted in conversation). OP is suggesting it is changed to say the entire sentence, so that surprise isn't spoiled for the viewer.

We've catered to the deaf enough, I'd say. They should be happy to get anything from us

I get what you're saying but disagree. First to all, the hyphen doesn't necessarily mean the character dies, just that he doesn't finish his sentence. Maybe he's interrupted by someone else, maybe he sees something that distracts him and he stops talking partway through his thought, or maybe someone just punches him or something, but it doesn't automatically mean they were shot in the head. Secondly, you don't get to see the rest of the sentence because we'll never know what they were going to say because they died. Subtitles should represent what was actually said, not what was going to be said.
By the way this is a very autistic conversation but at least I realize it

The interruption is supposed to surprise the viewer, but the interruption is telegraphed by the hyphen several seconds earlier.

Ah thanks for translation. I thought he wanted subs to contain secret dialogue that isn't in the movie
