The archetypal characers makes it extremely easy to localize the film using celebrities from the country it is being localized for

What's the plot though? I feel like the movie has no progression to it at all. The internal characters don't go on much of an adventure and they're the one's driving the kid who lacks her own free will, they basically learn that anxiety can't drive all decision? And that Riley has more to her self-schema than being a good person??

For a movie supposedly based on emotional states it also seems weird to suggest that anxiety and shame aren't present in children.

Shame is absolutely a learned emotion, and a big problem in our modern society is kids are raised without shame. And anxiety is difficult for children to put into words or express until a certain age.

You mean to tell me that you only feel shame to conform to social expectations? I mean it matches the stereotype but still..

Yes. The base emotions Riley has in the first movie (Anger, Joy, Sadness, etc) are all natural and even animals express these. The sequel is about more complex emotions that only humans develop. And an emotion that is designed to help you conform to social expectations is extremely useful and important to survival.
