A major A-list actor apparently pitched a RORSCHACH solo film to James Gunn and DC Studios last month. Not a reboot of Watchmen, but a gritty, standalone origin story set in the early 70s, think Taxi Driver or Joker. Actor is OBSESSED with the character. Wants to explore Walter Kovacs before he becomes full Rorschach. He wants to explore his childhood and his time as a Vietnam war veteran and how that informs his war on crime. Gunn was “intrigued but cautious.” Doesn’t want to touch Watchmen and make more Elseworlds unless it’s perfect. Rumor is actor wants to write AND star. Any guesses, /tv/?
>>212676485 (OP)I hope they will change his mask. A bunch of erect black penises was a very odd choice for a superhero symbol.
>>212676485 (OP)>going to barely break even with superman>need to tread lightly for the next few years at least until the dcu is fully built up>"let's make a film about rorschach that no one will watch>"it'll totally be like taxi driver bro"actors are all so narcissistic
Apparently, it's Jesse Plemons. He wants a star vehicle and commercial hit like how Joker was for Joaquin. It'd be his first big leading man role. I don't know if I'd consider him a major A-lister.
wonder if they'll do something woke, like make him a misogynist right-winger who can't spell.
>>212676748Superman is more MCU-copying crap for manchildren, Anon. If DC were to make more stuff like The Batman and Joker (Joker 2 was a fluke) they'd get nothing but winners. Constantine II is all but written and waiting to be made. DC movies are at their best when they're made for adults and made with prestige.
An Ozy or Comedian movie would be better
>>212676748>>"let's make a film about rorschach that no one will watchLol are you crazy? a rorschach film would be huge. he's the most popular DC character outside of the JL and Batman
>>212676749Makes sense. He's known and a big name but he hasn't had any leading roles, just supporting ones.
Travis Bickle CGI/AI cameo confirmed?
>>212676898is this canon?
(like how Pennyworth, the Alfred prequel to Gotham, takes place in the V For Vendetta universe.)
>>212676650Really? I saw my uncle molesting me.
>>212676992the Before Watchmen comics aren't canon per se but they're very good and not bad additions to the Watchmen canon, but mostly the Rorschach comics. the others are just mediocre. give it a read. it's actually pretty good and features a cool villain.
>>212676485 (OP)James Gunn should just tell Reeves to do Rorschach movies since that's clearly what he wants to do and leave Batman to him.
>>212676485 (OP)Not interested in Gunn's MCU Rorschach. Pass
In the comics he's very right winger. I wonder how Hollywood would adapt that.
>>212677306How do you think? Look what they did to the Arthur Fleck character who had no political motivations and was just a poor, mentally ill man who lost his mind and wanted to lash out at the man who was his idol but made fun of him and had nothing to do with the movement he inspired because of random killings. Rorschach is a full blown right winger to the bone. No chance in hell this movie is a thing and OP is just bullshitting for (You)s.
>>212676749There is only one Rorschach and that's Jackie Earle Haley.
neat. although gunn shouldn't be in charge of it
>>212677986It's Elseworlds and not part of the mainline DC universe (Watchmen) so he'll leave it alone.
>>212678605probably a retcon of some sort. he never passed the psych check to serve in vietnam even though he really wanted to.
>>212676898WTF
>>212676992The faggot with the mask and hat appears interacting with Alfred?
>>212676748Joker 2 was a huge flop but making a 30 million Rorschach film with some auteur and big name dramatic actor is a surefire winner.
>>212676749It's not Plemons. But you're close, though. It's someone who's in his age range.
>>212679066What is this nonsense? If you're larping as a studio leak on an anonymous Mongolian basket weaving forum, you might as well say the whole thing.
>>212676485 (OP)Should have made a Question movie instead
>Wants to explore Walter Kovacs before he becomes full Rorschach. ....and it's going to be shit oh well
>>212679235https://screenrant.com/dc-movie-james-gunn-masterpiece-pitch/
Not a LARP.
>>212676485 (OP)Alan Moore is going to get frustrated by this news
>why do yew loik him?
>>212679872Moore is still alive? Either way, who gives a fuck? He doesn't own the characters and thus his opinion is wholly irrelevant. That ship has sailed.
chatgpt knows all
>what about an a-list actor?
>One surprising A‑list actor who's admitted a strong fascination with **Rorschach** from *Watchmen* is **Tom Cruise**.
>During a chat on the *Happy Sad Confused* podcast, director Zack Snyder revealed that while Cruise was originally being considered for the role of Ozymandias, he **“wanted to play Rorschach”** himself . Cruise’s interest in embodying that dark, uncompromising antihero demonstrates a deeper appreciation—not just a passing curiosity—for the character.
>So yes: alongside franchise favorites like Jackie Earle Haley and Titus Welliver, **Tom Cruise**, one of Hollywood's biggest stars, has also openly expressed admiration for Rorschach by wanting to take on the role himself.
>>212680006How the fuck would this work though? He's 62 years of age. This is supposed to be an origin story for Walt when he's back from 'nam.
Will it be based on those BEFORE WATCHMEN comics, or on yet another Tom King's masterpiss?
>>212680040old rorschach talking about his younger days
>>212676485 (OP)Will they explain why his mask is about my parents getting divorced?
>>212680414his diaries/files in the comics are him as a kid, a teenager, and a young adult, right? so they'd have to cast other actors, anyway. probably easier to age a 20something up or down if they go the special effects route.
>>212681096actually, exploring the younger times could be a small part of the story with younger actors, (or de-aging for some short scenes) but still have the older rorschach fucking up bad guys as the main part of the story. the "origins" would just be short flashback scenes, a la watchmen.
>think Taxi Driver or Joker
so a ripoff of a ripoff
>>212681293yeah i think you should cast kids as kids, for obvious reasons, but at 15 in the foster home, or however old he was? could get away with some makeup and/or digital de-ageing.
don't want to ruffle any feathers here, but the old age makeup in Watchmen (2009) was pretty atrocious.
Why do it of an imitation?
Gunn said a "very, very, very" famous Hollywood star pitched him this movie but who could it be? Tom Cruise of all people? Plus, who does Gunn think is a major star these days? They'd have to also be up for playing the main role. I think Rorschach could have a great solo if they do it right. A 70's-set crime thriller is way too easy to make good. Jake Gyllenhaal? But he looks fuck all like Rorschach.
>>212681899man i loved this guy.
wonder if you could get away with 'conspiracy nut' now. no joke, even the term
>cabalhas 'connotations' according to some.
>>212681899Nobody cares about The Question and Rorschach is a far, far cooler character both in name, costume and personality. He's also more marketable and recognizable. I doubt this A-list actor even knows Rorschach is a homage to Question.
>>212680306Before Watchmen, most likely. The setup is simple and effective: 1970's set thriller where Rorschach goes after a criminal kingpin who's his direct opposite in both body and mind. You cut out all the other masked heroes and make Rorschach a single lone vigilante that breaks due to post-war PTSD. Also in the comic his adversary is also a product of that war, making for a great dichotomy.
>>212679066you're wrong its plemons im OP
Domhall Gleeson? He's the only big actor I can think of that fits Rorschach's description.
>>212676650That's two bears high-fiving, anon.
