I think he just included all his rejected standup material as bumper to pad episode runtime.
He’s egotistical enough to think, “Even my rejected standup content has value. Let me just shoehorn it into episodes of my show.”

They were also meant to be missable segments due to the nature of television in the 90s

Jerry Seinfeld was absolutely not a failed comic. He was one of the most popular stand-up comedians in the country by the late 80s. Popular enough to get offered a TV show on network television. You morons are such revisionists. Being in a collaborative partnership with Larry David only made both of them better. There's a reason Seinfeld was so beloved.

What is the deal with the word "peanuts"? I can't say it without it sounding like the word penis. I say it over and over and over again and it always comes out as "penis". People around me call me on it, and say, "you just said penis", No, I didn't, I said, "penis". "There it is, you said it again," they'll say. And I'll say, "said what?" "Penis" No, I didn't, I said "penis". "penis, penis, penis."

Here's one objective measure. The series finale of Curb had little over half a million viewers. Seinfeld? 76 million.

what the fuck are you talking about, retard?
the whole salsa vs. seltzer thing relies on being familiar enough with a jewy accent for those words to sound similar, which 90% of americans are not, jews only really live in like three places in this country
It also conversely relies on not being super familiar with Mexican food, and salsa being a "new" thing, which it was if you were a jew in fucking new york in the early 90s, but not if you lived ANYWHERE else in the US

It's "famous" because it got syndicated. It got syndicated because it appeals to the lowest common denominator.

Probably because one is on HBO, a subscription based television channel and the other was on NBC, when all you needed was an antenna to watch.

I'm a zoom zoom and everyone from my 85 year old grandma to my 17 year old sister and her friends are familiar with Seinfield.
Now I don't think it's really worthy of it's place, the last 4 or 5 seasons really jump the shark into retarded Family Guy territory, but you can't deny that it isn't recognizable. In 10 or 15 years from now? Maybe, but who knows. With social media it seems like history and culture are divided into a between everything pre-2015ish and everything since is a big blur.

They think he's funny even when he's trying not to be.
The show started about how a comic gets his material. It all ties into the show. Sometimes hit or miss pace changers but I enjoy them as part of the whole.

This is the only correct answer and Larry David has said it multiple times in interviews. They “show about nothing” came from retarded fans misinterpreting the meta plot about them getting a show, within the show.

The show is about his life as a stand up comedian you are seeing the job he does that contextualizes the story the plots take place in. Without these scenes you would have to think he never works.

The in-show Jerry isn’t meant to be bad at standup, he gains enough renown that he can make a pretty comfortable living as a comic and he’s on national TV often. I think the point is that his actual life is much crazier than his standup

The shows are written based on his standup

I think the idea that he thinks his inane observations are funny ends up being the real joke of his routine as the seasons wear on. This was partially addressed in the show with the whole Ovaltine routine he wrote for Bania.

As Jerry got more control over the show, he was the one who had them remove the stand-up segments so they'd have more time for the episodes themselves.
