Jon Bernthal's acting is by far my favorite part of this film. Brad Pitt said he's never seen anything like it. It wasn't even really method acting so much as Jon drawing directly from his Italian American upbringing to portray the character. Apparently as a kid, he spent a lot of time hanging out at the parish hall listening to the old men from the neighborhood talk about their time in the war.

There are 3 major problems with tank movies.

1. Americans blew up almost all German, Japanese, and Italian tanks during the war. There's barely any surviving examples left. The handful of survivors are in museums. And among those, almost none of them are running condition. They are just half rusted relics sitting in a museum.

2. Because of Problem #1 it's almost impossible to make authentic tank movies. Sure you can get American tanks. Plenty of those still around. But enemy German or Japanese tanks? Ha! Impossible. Most tank movies are forced to use old Russian tanks or American tanks disguised as German tanks.

3. Fans of Tanks are obsessive and particular. They won't be fooled by fake tanks. They hate when movies try to use fake tanks or disguised tanks.

Didn't make sense really the Germans could have just walked up to it with explosives like they still do in gaza. But I think these are the final days of the manned tank on the battlefield because of drones. The next generation of tanks with be AI unmanned automated Mobile artillery.

To be fair, SS infantry were not elite in any way and there were many instances of them pointlessly wasting men in boneheaded frontal assaults. Especially that late in the war when all the experienced NCOs and junior officers were already dead.

I could be wrong but Didn't an old man in Germany have an old Tiger tank in his garage? He used it as a snowplow to help the village clear snow from roads during wintwr. Then the German government changed the laws and declared it illegal. Then arrested the old man and took his tank and sold it. Do you know what happened to that Tiger tank?

I think this was like 7 years ago? I can't be sure exactly. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

I donโ€™t think this is the same project, but a dimensionally exact and nearly-functional (could move, turn its turret, elevate gun, but was empty inside save for drivetrain) Tiger I replica was being made for the movie White Tiger, but wasnโ€™t finished in time so they ended up using a fake one instead. You can find footage of the replica on YouTube.

It was a Panther, and they gave it to the military. Itโ€™s safe iirc.

Then surely they must be highly pro gun so they can defend themselves from such a dangerous environment.

Nope. America didn't really fight the European war wholeheartedly. They wanted to finish it quickly so that they can focus on their true enemy, the Japs. That's why Roosevelt and Eisenhower let the Russians take Berlin. Germany was a sidequest and the Americans were not interested in collecting junk.
