Matthew Vaughn had every intention of bringing Darwin back in his version of X-Men: First Class 2, but when he quit and Bryan Singer returned to do X-Men: Days of Future Past, those plans were scrapped in favor of Singer's vision which wrote out nearly everyone from First Class.

The future Sentinels in DoFP should have been made from Darwin's DNA rather than Mystique's, it would have made a lot more sense considering what they could do. This wouldn't really require bringing him back as a main character though, they'd just need to come up with a way for Trask to get a sample of his DNA. It could have been just a cameo appearance.
