I have read halfway through and it is the most unique premise I had seen since I started at 13. It might be gimmicky but I have yet to see another book match it. I feel like Hanson's movie The River Wild might qualify, it's more of a slowburn VHS thriller although some people say it only succeeds because of Kevin Bacon.

I think its co-written by Christopher Lambert, which makes it kinda interesting.
Its a nice thriller, clearly taking alot of inspiration from the era with the "90's noir".

Absolutely love this one. Used to be on HBO quite a bit late at night when I was a kid and it was my first time seeing a Lovecraftian film. I forgot the name of it for years and eventually found out what it was through a thread asking fellow film bros what movie I was remembering from seeing it as a kid. It's still one of the best Lovecraft films ever made, if not the best.
