Vampirism is actually a metaphor for AIDS and the Coreys were raped daily by producers and Schumacher personally.

>the Coreys were raped daily by producers and Schumacher personally

This is not true. As they were underage, working hour restrictions means that most of the Coreys' availability had to be devoted to filming, and rapings were generally limited to 3 times a week.

Additionally, the Coogan act ensured that once they turned 18 they were able to access a mandatory trust account which preserved a minimum 15% of rape proceeds.

The Lost Boys might be a movie about men transformed into monsters, but Hollywood isn't as monstrous as "they" would have you believe.

Oddly enough I can't stand Near Dark.
>>protagonist has no problem palling around with murderers until they go after his little sister then he's suddenly a hero.
also, these guys have been doing this for decades and still keep getting caught off guard by sunrise?
I won't even mention the "cure" the film pulls out of its ass at the last minute. Again, vampires have been running around forever and nobody thought of this before?

I watched it a lot as a child (10-12 years old?). Schumacher manages the pacing well and serves a great emotional blend between humour, weirdness, horror and love. Very teenage-focused story; the strength of the family vs rebellous friends and their dangerous acts. Memorable soundtrack with fitting images - People are Strange, Cry Little Sister, I Still Believe gets the spotlight in a MTV-like music video-light fashion but it works. Cool cast and "diverse" set of white characters with solid acting: Kiefer vs Patrick, the two Coreys, Dianne West, Jami Gertz. Captures the style and fashion of the late 80s, feels like a mix between pop and rock - the Bangles and Wham meets Motley Crue, Poison, Judas Priest. Maybe its my nostalgia talking but I can't see how anyone who was a youngster in the 80s/90s can be bored by this movie. A solid 8/10.

Actually, yes. There was an episode of "Tales From The Crypt" where a vampire worked at an old folks home feeding on the elderly because their families threw them away.

Pictured is actress Caitlin Carmichael. She's a different kind of vampire. She sucks your main vein if ya know what I mean. And you know what I mean.

Great movie. Saw it in the late 80s (came out in 88 on VHS here). Wasn't even a teenager yet. It was amazing and the opening music stuck with me for a lifetime.
Watching it as an adult i can see why it would annoy people seeing it for the first time - it's basically a goofy kids adventure movie more than it is a horror movie. But it's still great fun.

Also To think that Kiefer was only 18 at the time, and he looked cooler than i ever have in my entire life. It's not fair.

hey man, i love the film, did when i first saw it and do now. i managed to see it in the cinema finally on an original reel a few years ago with a girl who'd never seen it before - she liked it. she left the area for work and i never saw her again.
you sound like a decent person, hope life is good for you - it's been tough passing through these decades, feels ever more lonely.
the film reminds me of the goodness of the time, what was cool, fun, the adventure, some energy, a bit of hope that was had back then. it's a painting, but it inspires good things that maybe never came to be.

I took a trip up to Santa Clarita with my Dad a few years ago. He really likes The Lost Boys and we went to the boardwalk theme park where they filmed this. I was waiting in line for one of the rides. I forgot where my Dad was. Ahead of me in line were this pretty girl and her boyfriend. She asked me if I was here alone. Almost apologetically, I said I was here with my dad. She said, "That's cool!" I think she felt sorry for me. It depressed me. I was 26 and I had never had a real girlfriend. This was also the week Robin Williams died.
