>>212703295 (OP) It’s not really liked — people mostly remember it fondly because they hated the 2017 remake and miss fun adventure movies.
The actual ratings are pretty mixed:
IMDb: 7.1/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 61% critics, 75% audience
Metacritic: 48/100 critics, 7.7/10 audience
The 1999 film had cheesy charm, but even at release, many thought the dialogue was cringe and the CGI dated fast. It’s more nostalgic comfort than truly great.
>>212703295 (OP) >>212703397 its extremely well liked because of the charisma and chemistry brought by its entire fucking cast. protagonists, antagonists, side characters, all extremely memorable and fun. not the same as a good film, of course.
>>212703295 (OP) They missed the opportunity with these films by just focusing it on Mummies post the first The Mummy. The sequel should have been about Dracula, then the third about the Creature from the Black Lagoon - or something like that.
>>212703397 >"7.1" >61/100 >48/100 all of these ratings are an *entirely* reasonable swathe of ratings for Mummy 2017. Basically between 4.8-7.1. It was NOT a fucking remake of "The Mummy (1999)" in any shape or form whatsofuckingever and the people who hate it are subhuman plebeian retards who have no fucking nuanced thinking in general let alone any actual idea what they were going for.
It's fondly remembered because it was made on purpose by people who wanted to make it and who put love and effort into it. It tried hard, didn't take itself too seriously, and succeeded.
>>212703295 (OP) Because of that awesome chair throw duh. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o4yMMhVusZY

I dislike it in the same way as I dislike star wars prequels and the pirates of the caribbean movies. They're very empty and shallow going from place to place on rails timewastes. But at least there's a charm that makes watching them tolerable, unlike any modern slop.

>>212703397 >It’s not really liked — people mostly remember it fondly because they hated the 2017 remake and miss fun adventure movies. Most people who have seen the original don't even know or care about the 2017 remake kek. They like the original because, while not necessarily polished, it's FUN.

>>212703397 ratings for modern filmed are inflated by 2-3 points at minimum. a 7 in the 90's is basically a 9 today
Bad dialogue, cheap CGI, nonsense plot, etc all these things and more will be forgiven if you make a film that speaks to people and who they want to be. The fat, washed up British fighter pilot has a better and more fulfilling character arc in ~3 minutes than the last 15 years of Marvel Films and he’s just a bit part there to move the plot forward. Guys don’t want to be Capt Falc’murica using their superpowers to stop anyone from trying to change the status quo even a little while lecturing folks about “do better”. Guys want to fistfight/shoot undead creeps (and most of North Africa along the way) for fortune, glory, and the chance to bang/marry Rachel Weiss circa 1999. Rick is saving the world for a mountain of pillaged loot and some pussy and men find that more relatable (and desirable) than stopping some alien bullshit for a minute or two of preening self-righteousness before the world returns to being the shitty place it was before.
