>Hollywood decides on a new star
>spams them in every movie for 3 years
It used to feel more subtle than this, but who's up next?

>Pedro Pascal as Indiana Jones

Oh, just do it at this point. The brand is dead as fuck, it will never replace the trilogy, and I want to laugh at how hard it bombs.

The industry is marching to the algorithmic beat, that's why.
They used to have to gamble on possible trends, now they just consult data.

It is and it isn't.
Hollywood has forced actors for years, but they used to at least back down once they realised they'd backed the wrong horse, and eased off when they realised people were getting sick of them.
Actors like Pascal and Zendaya are noteworthy because they were starting to face pushback even before the latest projects were in the pipeline, and hollywood shows no signs of stopping.

For me the big difference is old stars used to do real movies inbetween block busters, look at Pitt's career, Depp, even Cruise. Now it's boring franchise slop with them forced into it.

The key difference is that forced actors nowadays are also paraded over social media and/or won’t shut the fuck up for attention.
You used to only be exposed to celebrities on their terms, or if a scandal dropped, but now you’re not only seeing them being plastered on adverts for six projects a year, but you also get the social media astroturfing too.
It makes them seem more prevalent than they are.

He was good in those, and was a decent pick for Mando, but TV seems to be his level. Larger than life movie roles dont suit him.

in the last three years he's in star Wars, a video game adaptation, and capeshit, and that's what most people here watch. So it feels like he's everywhere to them

Only thing I like about Pedro is that in his 'friendship' with Dakota Johnson she just endlessly bullies him like he deserves.

It´s called the star system and it´s pretty much been the essence of Hollywood since the beginning. Stars just used to feel bigger and shine brighter rather than give the feel that anyone could become one regardless of looks or talent/skill.

Same for genres. Back in the day they oversaturated the market with westerns now they oversaturate it with capeshit. The genre changes but the M.O is the same and it will presumably lead to the same results.

In time authors with unique visions will be the only way to stay afloat. Just let things run it´s course.

They´d probably do it had Solo or Dial succeeded but if they learned anything they´ll just bite their lips and let that go of that idea. There is 0 chance the audiences will accept anyone but Ford as Indy right now, they´d be better off shelving off that idea or killing Ford, waiting 75 years and then using AI to make movies with his likeness.

I am indeed Norewgian, but I don't remember making that post. It expresses distaste of paying roughly 200 bucks to smell farts, so if that makes me gay, then okay.

He's mostly in smaller movies. He just did the Materialists movie that came out a few weeks ago. Fantastic four and the Mandalorian movie are the first time he's really a lead in a big budget movie.

There is a difference here. When westerns were being shat out, they weren't being shown in every theatre unless they were the high profile ones. Though I suppose capeshit on tv has a similar niche
