It doesn't work for a few reasons:

1. The show is already steeped in irony and self-aware, working as an almost parody of super hero stories. A parody of a parody is pointless.
2. They weren't even real girls ,and the show keeps calling them weird doll people and think they're weird. It's unclear if they'd even "grow up" normally.
3. Bizare re-writes like the tv show existing in-universe but an adaption of the "real" story which is live action, Mojo JoJo not being real but named after TWO people. Professor Negro (my god, did they do that because the voice actor was black and they didn't want to "white wash" the character? They're always paranoid of twitter people).
4. Storyline seems to be Lex Luthor type figure, who si the son of the mayor wanting revenge and also teasing romance. Is this Smallville?

It's like a weird Smallville wannabe with irony. Why?

That trailer for some reason felt like it was 50 minutes and you saw the entire first episode. I think they mostly completed the first episode pilot but that's it, and maybe some fo the computer effects are wrong.
