You zoomers are braindead. 99% of content made over the last 50 years is gone forever and you're more likely to find it on private trackers and plex than any retarded streaming service.
This is why cable ruled because kino patricians curated the best stuff and you were exposed to films you'd never have found yourself. Oh well. Muh ala carte and boredom is better I guess.

bro never had a section that was blocked off by beaded curtains, or never walked into the store to be greeted with some rated R gorefest playing on the TVs

But yeah, scarcity places more values on goods. It's the same with porn, people back then could jack off to one VHS or DVD or one magazine for years, whereas now zoomers are instantly bored with straight normal porn and immediately have to start diving into weird fetishes and degenerate sexuality shit.

The one I went to had their sci-fi section built out to look like a space ship. They had this metal grate ramp that you had to walk up to get inside. It was kino. I attribute that video store as to why I love sci fi so much. 99.9% of anons will never know the joy of their mom picking them up from school and taking them to the spaceship to rent Stargate for the first time.

The movie was called Violent Shit, or maybe one of its many sequels, I was way too young and the most violence I had seen by that point was probably like the TV edit of Gremlins

What happened is white people, men in particular, stopped being the primary paying demographic, so they don't make movies for us anymore, and thus the movies suck and don't keep our attention.

I fucking miss going to a store each weekend and seeing a whole bunch of new games/movies you never even knew existed.
And they were right there waiting for you to take them home.
You took a punt on shit you'd never heard of, and you sometimes got absolute crap. But sometimes you came home with absolute gold, the most obscure shit ever made but also the most amazing thing you'd ever seen/played.
You don't get that experience now because you always check user reviews/ratings etc first. You know 5 years in advance what's in development.
You just consume what the algorithm tells you to, and you aren't getting a personalised recommendation, you are just consuming the same shit everyone else is.
Nobody finds obscure, under the radar stuff anymore because of this crap.

One thing i've been doing with video games lately to try to recreate this magic is each weekend i'll use Mobygames or IMDB to randomly select 3 titles, and i'll just play/watch those. I've found some really cool stuff so far... some stinkers too obviously but a lot of cool obscure shit.

A lot of blockbuster is rose tinted glasses. Back then you had to literally judge a book by its cover and a lot of the times the DVD case was designed to be incredibly enticing but the film was completely atrocious. If you were renting a VHS sometimes you put it in your player and it was mangled/unwatchable but you couldn't tell the store clerk because they'd make you replace it so you had to pass the suffering onto the next guy. If you didn't get to the store early enough the new releases section was picked clean. They also forget the weird chemical cleaner smell of the carpet and the teenager behind the counter who would rather be anywhere else and is smiling through existential dread as they spend their summer behind the counter of a blockbuster trying to resurface a disc for some Karen who mangled it under her dining chair leg. Fucking millennials are just as bad as boomers who bragged about having to walk to school both ways and sodie pap being a nickel. Fuck blockbuster. Nostalgia is a disease.

I'm talking the legal streaming platforms. Maybe I could find some of them on the sites you mention but the quality would likely be ass, whereas the private trackers have the highest quality available.

Last 5 movies I watched not on streaming:
The Bird People in China (1998)
Moon Young (2015)
The Discarnates (1988)
The Harmonium in My Memory (1999)
Woman of Water (2002)

You're just a pessimist. I don't miss having to drive to blockbuster to pay to rent a video for the same price I can get the dvd shipped directly to my house from amazon. Banking is way better, I can check my balances on my phone without having to call or go into my branch. I can e transfer. I can have my groceries delivered directly to my house without having to battle the predatory psychological practices within the store. During lockdowns I could renew my insurance over the phone (wish that would make a comeback). I don't miss going to a physical store to pay a 400% markup on an item the store owner ordered from the internet and put on a shelf just to "buy local". There's a lot of things about modernity that are extremely convenient when you aren't always looking on the dark side of life.
