Neat scenes with these two. Staros keeps just looking at him and the lt.col. knows that even if he's right, he's doing the right thing for the wrong reason, and will probably suffer worse regret than Staros will in the end. Meanwhile Staros ends up being sent packing, not because he spoke out, but because this glory hound showed Staros exactly who he is and the boss can't keep a guy like that around, can't let him get credibility in his sphere. Similar to Witt and Welsh, who are both the guys you want around you when shit goes down, but the way it works Witt has to be chewed by the cogs anyway, and will let it happen. Ends up dying a heroic death than any of the guys who Welsh had who could follow orders. Fantastic movie, endlessly rewatchable, has this nice gentle touch that avoids being pretentious so easily
