Actually, the original movies are mostly garbage for 75% of their run. The one thing going for them is the fact that they were clearly made with effort and pride, but that doesn't salvage the Yates movies in particular from being utter butcherings of the story.
Remaking the films for a more faithful adaptation makes sense, but unfortunately they don't seem worried about that right now either.
