Why are there people who obsess over box office numbers? It's like a hobby for some people. Who cares? I only care if I personally like a movie or not. Why would I care if some movie makes money for the company or not? What's the point?

Because most people on this board are SEVERELY autistic and are incapable of forming their own opinions. So the become obsessed with what they consider the "correct" opinion, which is basically just which movies are most popular and which make the most money. So arguing about box office numbers and viewership numbers and overseas sales and all that bullshit are like proving their opinion is the CORRECT one to these fags

Box office numbers is just the same as a person making money in normal life - it doesn't prove they're doing something of value and doing it well, but it does provide evidence they're doing something right, especially when compared with others that are in the same line of work.

Also the people looking at box office numbers are caring about the direction of hollywood in future. I'm sure you care about if your tv shows are pulling enough viewers to continue - seems a more legitimate interest than caring a lot about what compromised reviewers say.
