Watching this kino right now, there are some damn fine action scenes in this, it’s probably emmerichs best movie. But other than that I kinda hate it, the villains are just way to cartoony and over the top, it’s literally like watching any wwii movie. Do they really hate the British this much? I get revenge is a simple motivator for a story, but fuck man it’s like every single arc in the movie is just Mel losing a family member. The movie has some great performances, it’s nice to see Odo and there’s a dude in this from an episode of TNG I love that kills himself, but had some good lines. Other than that what’d I think about it and what’s some other revolutionary war kino I can watch?

I believe that, I don’t believe that a British officer would shoot a white unarmed child in the back in full view of his men. There are limits and as I said I understand the need for revenge as a simple plot tool, this shit just got out of hand

I can’t think of anything before or after this movie that portrays the British as flat out evil. During the revolution sure, the movie is allegedly based on old war time propaganda about one successful British colonel. But it was also directed by a gay German and written by the Jew that wrote saving private ryan, so that’s why the British were all cartoons because that’s how he thinks about the world

But don’t be to mad about it limey, sure you got your butt kicked by a better people during the revolution. Let’s just enjoy the history we’re building tomorrow rather than the asskickickings of yore

The two daughters of a random colonel causing so much carnage with their snatches was made up (white man is a dog to his women after all), but some of the characters were real and given enough time, something like this happened somewhere on the frontier, surely.

the french navy were the only problem the english faced. if you read into history instead of hollywood propaganda, you'll find you didn't do well on land, and that the english withdrew as they were currently fighting the dutch, spanish and french empires simulatenously.
