Why can't we just get a JP Reboot based on the books? It can be R-rated. it'll totally work because kids don't give a fuck about dinosaurs anymore.

I've been going to bed listening to the audiobook and it's so well-written. Aside from the rafting snoozefest.

All the death scenes are incredibly brutal and memorable.

Because it hasn't fallen off yet. The latest movie is doing well. You just know they'll make another, and another so we have another trilogy to add to the other two. If for some reason the second and third of this new trilogy fail at the box office I can the IP going dormant for 15 years. Then it will be revived, most likely starting over, with the brutal book accurate adaptation you're looking for. But its still too popular with what they currently offering

JP being an R-rated adult thriller doesn't work for me. The brilliance of the movie was taking a mostly innocuous subject that appealed to tons of little boys and turning it into a deadly nightmare, while still maintaining the boyish sense of wonder.

This. As long as mutant dino slop makes money, they'll keep making mutant dino slop. Though 15 years is hilarious. There's no way they'd let a blockbuster franchise rest that long. 5 would be a stretch

This is correct. It's often forgotten that the film rights were sold before the book was completed, so the book and movie were developed with consideration for different versions of the story based on the medium. A book adaptation would be really cool to see on screen, but it wouldn't be as good as the movie we already got. If they did want to go all out with a straight horror movie in the universe they should dip their toes in with a spinoff and give it the same tone as something like Dino Crisis to see if it would even resonate with audiences before going full reboot.

I think Crichton actually wrote the script for JP, didn't he? Of course nowadays you could get away with a lot more gore and violence before getting the dreaded R, and with the general moviegoing population having aged since 1993 it might even be sellable as an R-rated blockbuster.

I honestly think that most people who ask for an adaptation that's closer to the book haven't actually read the book. It's full of pointless characters and subplots that Spielberg wisely cut out.

He first started writing it as a film script before converting what he had already come up with into the novel, but I can't remember how much writing he contributed to the final film. I know David Koepp was a screenwriter on it, so it wasn't solely Crichton.
