Lynch (and Frost) were Boomer as fuck and Judy was top 3 girl name or something back then so having a malevolent entity be a popular name was just another epic subversion

Lynch on Part 18 (Via Mark Frost)
>โ€œInitially, David and I were in two minds about how to end โ€˜The Return.โ€™ I felt that Cooper [Kyle McLachlan] going back and rescuing Laura, then having the mystery of her death disappear, might be an extraordinary way to bring us back to ground zero,โ€ Frost said. โ€œBut David said, โ€˜He has to pay a price for what heโ€™s tried to do.โ€™ Sheryl Lee was incredible. This is the moment when the full horror comes back to this poor soul; itโ€™s the price Laura Palmer pays for Cooperโ€™s attempted good deed. That was the end of this story.โ€

I'm glad I understood this watching the finale instead of being a retard that dug into pocket dimension theories and the even dumber shit about it being a good ending.
The thing the finale does more than any other episode in the season is dread, from beginning to end there is this feeling of everything being done is wrong, what Cooper is doing is wrong and there's this absolute desperation to it all where he's grasping for a simple answer to this, a neat ending that makes sense in his mind and then you just see it crumbling down in front of him as he knocks on that door and is met with just zero answers. Not even the names mean anything there even though they've had significance before.

For in story lore, not born but released from mankind's search for answers and power they weren't ready for

For writing, Judy is closure which makes it an evil entity via the end of all things.

For everyone else. Whatever you want to interpret it as. Is Judy really evil if even to this day it keeps the conversation going? Maybe Judy is just the darker side of the coin in what is ultimately the balance of creation

I saw Judy as the mother of evil. All the things humans were doing to each other came to a boiling point when we detonated the first nuke, and birthed the entity Judy into our universe. She created a bunch of other evil entities to act as her proxies, and one ended up causing all the shit in Twin Peaks, which was Bob. The whole White/Black lodge thing was just another much older set of psychic-derived entities in another dimension, probably caused by belief of Native tribes, and Bob was basically exploiting its existence for himself by unbalancing it and strengthening the Black lodge, at the expense of the White lodge.

Judy definitely isn't Sarah, I'll say that much. I think its one of the shittiest theories passed around by fans that she is.

The Jumping Man. We literally see her face superimposed on him. The Jumping Man to me is the physical representation of grief, stuck in constant turmoil and pain, reliving it forever. It destroyed Sarah's life and that is why this lodge spirit has attached himself to her. I don't think Sarah is an evil entity or being, but she's no longer good either, she's a husk.
Now that second part is obviously just my theory but the fact that her face is superimposed on him is not a theory they outright show you that.

Based Lynch was right. Frost's midwit version would suck because it would invalidate and undo FWwM's ending, which had finality to it and was already a cathartic happy ending for Laura.
With the way Return ended, FWwM is still the final ending for Laura. Cooper gets the outcome one would realistically get for trying to play around with time and timelines, which is getting zero-summed out of existence.

Pretty much. Frost is a classically trained writer. Beginning, middle, end. The whole point a lot of people missed with twin peaks is that it wasn't about that but the journey. The golden goose of mystery that worked like a big bang forever expanding the world and characters. Audiences were too trained from standard format media already they wanted, or rather demanded, answers and the studio buckled. David explains all this in his later interviews but unfortunately it just wasn't a format of storytelling sustainable for TV. Ironically enough during season 2 when it was written by Mark to be more in line with a thriller or mystery it lost its charm. Not because Mark is a bad writer but rather it no longer was about world building that audiences subconsciousness locked onto. Mark knew this but he was at behest of the studio. Best David could do was try to express to people through the last few episodes and movie was it's not about the answers, but the journey. The friendships and love. The light in the dark. Literally giving crash courses in world building through metaphors while keeping it entertaining for casual viewers.
