I always have fond memories of this but it's always worse than i remember when i actually watch it. I don't understand why. I really liked the music. I really like the dark look. I like Arnold. I like Gabriel Byrne. I think Robin Tunney is cute as hell. But i never enjoy this movie as much as i think i will

1999 is a weird year, it really was the pinnacle of film craft in terms of cinematography, miniatures, compositing, while the CGI is obviously more primitive, it usually holds up way better because it was used more sparingly and often had other effects (like a miniature or animatronic) that it needed to blend with for reference.
That being said so many films in 1999 made such a big deal about the new millennium that I think they should be assigned to the 2000s.
Either way 1994-2006 is probably the greatest period in cinema ever produced.

I don't understand why this didn't become bigger. As a city slicker child it scared the shit out of me. It must have hit close to home for others too

this was quite good, I was looking for it for a long time but the lad that recommended it to me had told me that it was al pacino rather than gabriel byrne.

Matrix wasn't kidding when they said 1999 was the peak of civilization. It's literally been downhill since then. I wouldn't be surprised if an asteroid had hit us and we've been in purgatory since.
