The Magic School trope is much older than Harry Potter and there were popular best selling book series before it like Earthsea and Discworld, series like The Worst Witch and Groosham Grange which HP is remarkably similar to. I'd like to think that as time goes by newer writers will point to these older series and bring some attention to the older authors maybe in retrospective they'll become more relevant to top culture when writing school settings in the fantasy genre. That might take some time because for a lot of normies shit set at a school still sounds like Harry Potter to them.
