Panel shows went downhill after the Beeb's mandate to have at least one woman in every episode. Not that women aren't funny, but there's a cabal of like three booking agencies for all these shows and the talent pool was already stretched thin, so you had weak and/or overexposed women. As well as being not funny themselves, it seemed to kill the vibes for the other acts too.

The BBC made 90% of those shows and had their stupid woman and minorities mandate quota. While women and coloreds can be funny, the bbc choose to promote the least funny ones.
The format was getting tired. I remember every other show was a panel bantz show back in the mid 00s - mid 10s, it was completely oversaturated and unsustainable.
The media landscape changed, the rise of streaming and social media meant gradually audiences were watching less and less television in general.
The culture changed, we got influenced by American culture hard, so all the ORANGE MAN BAD shit dominated here but grafted over with BREXIT BAD instead, and obviously telly audiences skew older and older people voted more for brexit so did not appreciate being attacked so hard. Even the best comedians here were skewing to majority north london elite, so the writing was always on the wall.
And finally, the best comedians got old, they are all in their 50s and 60s now, the young replacements don’t really go into tv, its easier and better money online.
