I read the interview, and kinda.
For starters, the Infinity Stones are not a thing on the comics, there's the Soul Gems or Infinity Gems, not Stones, they aren't stones or whatever the fuck the Reality one is. And the backstory the Collector gives, isn't also on the comics (which is where this article title probably refers to) and it's original to the MCU (the fact that they are fragments or some shit out of the creation of the universe itself compared to the comic book version where) . Not even the colors are accurate.
Its similar to how the Infinity Stones are tied to unrelated items in the comics, the Eye of Agamotto or the Cosmic Cube

The Infinity Gauntlet storyline is pretty huge in the comics, the naming of the stones is just really dorky semantics.

Also, Gunn wasn't even involved in the MCU until midway through Phase Two, long after the Infinity Stones were teased in prior movies.

Wow it took only three minutes to come up with "the power stone is a magic stome of power that grants power to the person holding the stone" and the bad guy wants to use the stone of power to et power from the power stone"?
