He is literally an equivalent of those cosplayer chicks who look nothing like the original but achieve similarity by putting on the wig and few kilos of makeup.

Child actors have hellish existences. No sane parent goes "You know what career path my child should follow? Acting out in Pedowood movies and shows! What could possibly go wrong?" -- it's fucking child prostitution, always has been. NONE of these kids are left untouched or unscathed. None. They're all diddled or messed with to get roles. You have these desperate loser parents who never achieved anything willing to put their children through hell just to be able to live vicariously through them. I remember this one child actor with a single mother who forced him to act since he was 5 and he lost his mind before 20 and killed himself because puberty curbstomped him pretty badly and his cute and cuddly gimmick was no longer there. I feel bad for these kids but hey, that's life. They were born to these awful parents and that's that.

For a childrens book I feel the silly translation were mandatory to get a french kid to feel the same way an english kid might reading the names. A french kid would have no reference to what "Fawkes" would have meant, but with Fumseck the emotion would be roughly the same, even if you're missing the mature reference (from "fumer"/smoking, "sec"/dry, "sec" also evoking the action of doing something a lot in slang).
Same from Hogwarts becoming "Poudlard" (roughly Licelard), not the same but with a similar effect on a kids mind.
