The "imprisoning war" is the obvious Zelda "story" to adapt but they can make use of elements from multiple games like a combination of Ocarina and Tears of the Kingdom.

You could easily turn OoT into a great movie because it follows Joseph Campbell’s Monomyth almost 1:1. Especially if you sprinkle in elements from TP and other Zeldas. Just needs a good director

They don't need to have a 7 year time skip to do the Ocarina plot. In fact it would be better without the inconsistent time travel that was only in the game for being able to reuse locations to extend gameplay. They could start with the plot beginning with Ganondorf's conquest of Hyrule and start the plot with Link being sent out from the forest with the objective given by the Deku tree to find Zelda who went into hiding. That way they could use all the Ocarina narrative and iconography while keeping it broad enough to have visual elements from the other games.

Obviously that's not happening. But it's what they should have done.
