>>212779265They're in a bubble and have no connection to reality. Nintendo are playing it safe with their new venture into film, they want it to succeed. The Mario movie should have made this clear, they're going for as surefire as they can. They kept it faithful to Mario, they used a reliable moneymaking animation studio that keeps budgets reasonable, they had a big name cast, and they kept the story familiar and basic.
Now, for Legend of Zelda, it's live action, so they can't just toss random big names, they now have to fit the character visually too, and the story will have to be more involved than Mario's basic one. There's also more to draw on, since the games have more of a narrative than the Mario ones where it's purely an excuse except for the RPG spinoffs, but that still meant they would play it safe and cast young unknown white English actors for Link and Zelda. There will be some bigger names in the supporting cast, but there's absolutely nothing surprising about the two leads' casting here.
They were not, under any circumstances, going to immediately plunge their film into divisive controversy by casting an American tranny in his late twenties. And for what? I'm afraid they don't cast based entirely on a random picture the guy in braids.
