There's no way the girl is lying. It wouldn't look good if the conclusion to this film was the reveal that the straight white male, from an older generation that thinks kids are too easily offended, was actually telling the truth and the younger black woman was lying about being raped because of fears of being outed for plagiarism.
No studio/writer, especially in hollywood, would ever produce that story.

Now, if the student was a whiny white mini-Karen, and there was an indication of the way that constant ambiguous accusations hurt the credibility of actual victims, then the story could go either way. But as is, it doesn't track.
