Yes completely. Larry made Curb which was improv Seinfeld for 20 years. Jerry made The bee movie and the poptart movie. And I'll never forgive him for how he treated Soshana.

I fully suspect on his own, Jerry might have made some 90s film that bombed, and you'd talk about him like you talk about Carrot Top now.

Just wanna say that Curb sorta lost its steam part way though, and it went from mostly David and his retired rich hollywood friends getting into awkward situations, to a cartoon show.

David's wife Cheryl was a great straight man, and actually a good woman you'd want to marry. Irma is a complete cartoon character. Leon is another human cariacture (no way Larry has black friends). He probably felt the show needed its own Kramer.

By that time the show had lots of other writers and a defined concept that David had helped originate. Seasons 8 and 9 are also generally weaker and have a slightly different, less grounded feel to earlier seasons.

Curb doesn’t even touch Seinfeld. Jerry brought a likability and more relatable humor to balance Larry’s (George’s) neuroticism. They needed each other equally.

>The worst episode out of them is the finale, which Larry wrote.

Which Larry accepts, and he owns up to. The problem is that Larry was trying to write an actual god damn story, with character arcs, and an actual conclusion. It's anathema to the show's format.

Elaine was gonna burst out she loved Jerry on the plane? What? They had nothing going on. She and Puddy were perfect. They toyed with the idea of some kind of plane crash leading to a limbo ending, which is actually became the premise of Lost? And Jerry and George get to go to LA to finally get their sit-com picked up even though NBC turned them down like 10 years ago? Why would they just suddenly give him a second chance?

That kind of story arc also would need some kind of a build up. Jerry gets a career resurgance the whole season, and suddenly he's getting more offers.

And why not have Jerry and George actually succeed in their sit com show? Why not? Fuck it. It's the finale! Give them some bread crumbs.

Give a little ending where you show where they all end up. George marries unhappily with 3 kids, Jerry never marries, has 2 kids, Puddy and Elaine have 2 kids, etc.

>The problem is that Larry was trying to write an actual god damn story, with character arcs, and an actual conclusion. It's anathema to the show's format.
Conceptually, I get what Larry was attempting to achieve. He had essentially developed the "full circle" formula for each episode where events at the start would prove pivotal for a concluding punchline at the end. For the finale, he was attempting to create the ultimate full circle episode, but the issue is that it's too cute and contrived to bring in all the past one off characters who were wronged in some way by the gang... and the end result is what we got. What Larry could have done was to create a series of events that catapulted the characters into a regressive state of living similar to how they started out at the beginning of the series... showing karma's punishment in a less contrived way. At this point, Larry was done with Seinfeld and I don't think he had it in him to create a good finale. Him returning was a marketing stunt more than anything.
