Just watched the first 3 movies, are the other 5 worth watching, cause they all seem to follow the same formula? That is, the trio is threatened by something, investigates it on their own without telling the teachers, which eventually lands them into trouble where they confront a villain, win due to some deus ex machina, then the movie ends immediately. There are also obligatory Dursley and Quidditch sections etc. IDK, don't really see the appeal aside from ogling teenage Emma Watson.

The books are just mystery club novels that were popular in boomer eras with magic

honestly, that formula is the best part. YMMV but when they get into 'other' stuff it's tedious world-building that SOMEHOW feels like it came too late. fish-out-of-water, 'sir, what's a fuzzlewump?' stuff was actually magical and fun.

they (rightfully) trimmed the books down, but the problem remains. at least the special effects get better, with time? the tone gets a bit more grim and serious?

>ONE POINT TO SLYTHERIN FOR EVERY JEW KILLED IN THE HOLOCAUST!
>malfoy sneers
>the old coot is having us on, that’s zero points…
>144,000 POINTS, MOSTLY DUE TO TYPHUS
>slytherin begins cheering
>HOWEVER…
>their jubilation dies almost instantly and you hear quiet weeping from the back of the hall
>IT IS ONLY FAIR WE RECOGNISE BOTH SIDES OF THE DEBATE…
>AND SO I AWARD ONE POINT TO GRYIFFINDOR FOR EVERY CHRISTIAN KILLED BY JEWISH BOLSHEVIKS
>murmuring across the hall as nobody knows how many that was
>20 MILLION POINTS! YOU HEARD ME CORRECTLY! 20 MILLION FUCKING WHITE CHRISTIANS KILLED! AND THEY DIDNT TEACH ANY OF YOU DID THEY? DID THEY????
>statues come to life and start stomping into the hall
>slytherins resign themselves to another month in the dungeon
>they walk past
>they hoist filius fitwick into the air
>LETS EVEN THOSE NUMBERS SHALL WE CHILDREN? DIE YOU DYSGENIC MIDGET KIKE!
>nobody dares mention how fitwick isn’t even jewish as the golems tear his arms and legs off and he screams in agony
>144001 POINTS TO SLYTHERIN! OOOOO YOU CAN STILL WIN THE CUP YET BOYS AND GIRLS!
>everyone cheers

Can any potterhead explain why house Slytherin is a thing at all? All members are assholes at best, criminals at worst, and it was founded by a literal nazi who had to be kicked out of the school.

>inb4 it's just a children's book, it needed an obvious bad guy faction

Houses are a meme as realised by Harry, the hat lets you pick anyway. I guess Rowling figured the assholes just fit in together at asshole club. Also fun fact about the scene this thread is about, Dumbledore knows full well it's not fair to do that with the points. He is really tired of the decorations. It's implied the teachers favored Slytherin for years regardless. At this point he was so sick of another Slytherin win he just threw points at Gryffindor to get some new decorations. This is why right after he says "new decorations are in order" in the movies, he is actually rigging it for Gryffindor. So he actually was being unfair to Slytherin on purpose.

Do Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw have any relevance at all in the later movies? Cause the first few movies ignore them entirely.
