This early seasons meme is getting annoying. It was somewhat believable as a genuine opinion when a handful of people were saying it, but now it's so absurdly common and more and more overstated that I'm pretty sure it's just being used an excuse to publicly admit that you like family guy without the stigma of seeming like a lowbrow NPC.

That was actually the middle seasons. The early ones were still somewhat pretending to be a Simpsons style sitcom. In the late 2000s they reached this point of totally, uncompromisingly depraved post-ironic anarchy that was unlike anything on TV, but then it went on too long and the energy got sucked out and things got predictable again. I'm sure that era is too garish and mean-spirited for a lot of people and that's why they prefer the early stuff, but I'll defend seasons 5-9 unabashedly. Maybe in a few years the internet will come around to it like it did with 1-4.
