The room was packed. There were laughs, gasps, and tears. It had it all. I'm sure everyone left feeling the same way after watching this amazing film.

I forget if it was Aster or a commentator that made this point, but it was argued that the idea of the film is that if you politically enrage people and provide a scapegoat, violence WILL follow. My problem with how the movie portrays that is:
1. Phoenix does not have the psychological profile of a murderer, so that just feels way off
2. Phoenix's murder is more about a personal vendetta than political rage.

Trying to square Phoenix murdering Pascal and his son in the realm of political metaphor just doesn't fit anywhere. It feels like the movie just abandons any hope of meaning at that point.
