They got a few origin stories pretty faithful as well as certain character portrayals, but they have constantly taken liberties as it suits them regardless of faithfulness with characters and entire movie plot lines. The difference is that Marvel/Disney took the slow and steady approach before bringing out Avengers. By that point they built up enough good faith with the audience to guarantee they'll be around for the next phase, even it had some shit movies.
