A poor person remains poor, a sick person remains sick, an unemployed man remains unemployed, and a lonely person remains lonely. Even worse, dwelling and ruminating on traumas and bad feelings often exacerbate them and reinforce feelings of alienation and being a victim or sick.
It has been found that the treatment outcomes of different schools of therapy do equally well (or bad), which suggests that the only utility of therapy is in their common factor: talking to someone trustworthy. If you have anyone to talk to, that's likely as good as therapy. If you don't, therapy might be of some utility.
