>>212859858> the private investigators hired by the families don't have the heart to tell them the truth so they go on with tawdry speculation of abductionThere’s was a fucking egregious one from the late 80s involving a disappearance of a woman in the middle of the night
Basically a woman with a history of mental illness is staying at her aunt’s lakeside cabin, she starts having an episode and climbs out the window, then takes a rowboat to the other side of the lake and vanishes into the forest. Would be a pretty clear cut disappearance and you’d think the segment would focus entirely on trying to locate an ill and at-risk woman, but 90% of the segment is tacky bullshit speculation of kidnapping despite there being zero evidence for it
In the early 2000s her remains ended up being found a mile away from the cabin. After crossing the lake she’d fallen down a small hill, broke her neck, and had died the same night she ran away. The segment became so fucking embarrassing in hindsight that they didn’t bother updating it for the Robert Stack episodes and just removed it, and when they re-edited it for the Dennis Farina episodes it was like 2 minutes long without all the conspiracy talk.
